The Northern Congenital Hyperinsulinism (NORCHI) service is a highly specialised service in the North of the UK. NORCHI has two sites – Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (Manchester) and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital (Liverpool). Children with hypoglycaemia (low blood sugars) due to Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI) can be referred to this service. The service offers a comprehensive package of investigations, including 18-Fluoro-Dopa PET-CT scanning, medical management and specialised pancreatic surgery through a multidisciplinary team. The team has consultant paediatric endocrinologists,[MSE1] specialist nurse practitioners, dietitians, speech and language therapists, radiologists, nuclear medicine consultants, clinical psychologists, pancreatic surgeons and histopathologists. The NORCHI service has a strong track record for innovation and research. NORCHI collaborates closely with researchers in the University of Manchester to understand the disease, its effects on the brain and therefore plan better treatment for children with CHI.
